Path of Idle Game Modes and Progression Order
Understand Expedition, Exploration, Divine Tower, Alternate Dimension, Finality, and how to diagnose a stalled Path of Idle team.
Which game modes are officially confirmed?
The official Steam description lists five progressive adventure modes: Expedition, Exploration, Divine Tower, Alternate Dimension, and Finality. It also describes future single-player seasons with independent saves, so seasonal progress should be treated separately from the main account route.
What should you run first?
Use the mode that exposes the next useful bottleneck. Expedition and ordinary stage progress are the clearest early benchmark; Exploration supports the resources needed to fix that benchmark. Later challenge modes should test whether your roster is broad enough, not only whether one hero has the highest number.
How do you diagnose a failed auto-battle?
| Symptom | Most likely check | First change to test |
|---|---|---|
| Front line collapses early | Sustain or durability | Add Cleric support or improve defensive gear |
| Team survives but times out | Damage coverage | Add ranged area damage or improve offensive affixes |
| One line advances and another stalls | Roster depth | Spread upgrades across six usable heroes |
| Every mode stalls together | Account-wide system | Review town, Infusion, Workshop, and Temple progression |
| Only one mode stalls | Mode-specific composition | Change one team layer and retest that mode |
Why should you change only one system at a time?
Auto-battle makes controlled comparison possible. If you change the team, gear, buildings, and Runewords simultaneously, you cannot tell which investment moved the wall. Change one layer, allow a representative run, and record whether survival time or clear speed improved.
How do seasons affect progression?
The official page says seasonal content will be added gradually and that each season has independent save files. Do not assume a main-account unlock or item automatically carries into a season. Every season guide should be versioned and sourced separately after the mode is live.

Sources and verification
Mode names and the seasonal-save model come directly from the official Steam page. The troubleshooting framework is an inference from the confirmed auto-battle, team, town, and equipment systems rather than an invented reward table.
